Clematis Cirrhosa Freckles Climbing plants and wall shrubs are a very important part of any garden, providing vertical structure and colour - often where space is limited. This group of plants is large and they have many assets from flowers, scent, berries/fruit and not forgetting a wide range of foliage. Uses include covering walls, pergolas, arches, growing up and through other plants. Climbing plants, or climbers, can be trained on walls or fences to add height to a garden. Climbing plants and wall shrubs can provide screening plus they are great for hiding less attractive house or garden features and unsightly buildings. Some climbing plants may require support in the form of wires or trellis to aid them while they get established. Other climbers are self-clinging and produce aerial roots. Climbers tend not to be evergreen. In addition to plants that are categorised as purely climbers, many bushes and fruit trees can be trained to provide wall cover, as can a few species of hedging. So there is a climber for most parts of your garden.
